Ontario Summit & ARIDO AGM 2024 Recap

We celebrated 90 years of ARIDO at the 2024 Ontario Summit and ARIDO AGM on March 20^th and 21^st! The event included networking, community building, and updates from ARIDO leadership about the Association's work. Attendees enjoyed a program which included learning opportunities related to equity, diversity and inclusion with a special understanding of the interior design profession.

Educate Stream, March 20th

On day 1 of the Ontario Summit on March 20^th we presented 3 engaging EDI focused virtual sessions which were full of insights from our panelists, and generated many exchanges in the chat from members and participants.

During the first session of the day, Russell Pollard brought forward concepts for workplace culture, people-leadership, change management, and presented industry specific information and research. The session was moderated by Daniel Grisales from Uniq Dimensions, our 90^th anniversary partner.

The second session unpacked the origins and meaning of the term Intersectionality to further understand its relevance in design and what new skills must be applied and developed. Lisa MacVicar presented these concepts, and the session was moderated by Victor Ayoub from Hafele Canada, another 90^th Anniversary partner.

Finally, we ended the day with a session on ARIDO's Exam Alternative Project where Dr. Fatima Samji shared a conceptual framework for EDI in assessment and presented her findings of this study in high level format. The session was moderated by Lucy Traetto from our Speaker Sponsor Blum Canada.

Community Stream, March 21st

Day 2 was an amazing day of networking, updates and celebration of ARIDO’s 90^th Anniversary, which was offered in hybrid format, with members joining us virtually and in person at the Haworth Toronto Showroom!

We enjoyed an enlightening session with Brian Porter and Sharon Portelli, ARIDO Executive Director and Registrar about Indigenous design and how it differs in culture, approach and client engagement than traditional Eurocentric focus design, and later heard updates from board members about the Communities model, Examination Alternative Project and more, during the ARIDO Member Townhall.

During the ARIDO AGM, President Sabrina Carinci, ARIDO summed up the past year, and VP Finance Joanne Chan, ARIDO reported on the association's audited statements for 2023 along with the 2024 budget. We introduced new members of the Board of Directors Serina Fraser and Lisa Fulford-Roy, and returning members Joanne Chan, ARIDO and Bryan Wiens, ARIDO, and we announced the incoming president, Jeremy Cheff, ARIDO. Congratulations to all!
