World Earth Day 2026
This Earth Day, we look back to IDS 2026 and the BID Design Justice Charrette presented in partnership with ARIDO, InspirED Learning Lab and Ojiibik at the ARIDO booth. ARIDO Interior Design students, with the help of Intern mentors, took on a powerful challenge: designing with both the planet and people in mind.
Through a focused charrette, the students explored how marginalized communities are disproportionately impacted by environmental issues, from poor air quality to limited access to green space, and reimagined how design can be part of the solution.
Their installations went beyond aesthetics:
- Interactive experiences that educate and engage the public on climate inequity
- Proposed solutions that prioritize healthy materials, improved air and water quality
- Sustainable and resourceful material usage, and thoughtful material choices sourced from IDS exhibitors and supporting sponsors, each telling a deeper story of origin, reuse, and justice
By prioritizing healthy materials, regenerative practices, and inclusive thinking, these emerging designers are shaping a future where sustainability and equity go hand in hand.
Design isn’t just about spaces, it’s about impact.
