March 8th: International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is an opportunity to recognize both progress and the work that remains in advancing equity across professions and industries.

Interior design in Ontario offers an important example of that progress. Unlike many industries, more than 80% of ARIDO’s members identify as female, many serving as firm owners, principals, educators, and decision-makers shaping the economic and cultural impact of the built environment, based on the numbers from the DIV.e.IN survey by Matrix360.

This speaks not only to participation, but to leadership. Women are influencing business outcomes, mentoring future professionals, and contributing to communities through the spaces they design and the practices they lead.

International Women’s Day reminds us that representation alone is not the end goal. Sustained progress depends on continued access to leadership opportunities, equitable recognition, and professional environments where diverse voices can thrive.

Today, we recognize the collective contribution of women across Ontario who continue to advance the profession through expertise, collaboration, and leadership. Visibility backed by evidence matters. These insights help us better understand where progress is occurring and where continued effort is needed to support equity across the profession.

Because progress is built together.
