Criteria

An Intern Member is one who:

(a) is of good character and adheres to the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics of the Association;

(b) has provided certified evidence of successful completion of the Association’s minimum standard for education at the time of application, but has not yet completed the qualified work experience and has not yet passed all parts of the qualification examination(s) proscribed by the Board and set out in the Association’s Membership Policy;

(c) has undertaken to participate in and complete qualified work experience proscribed by the Board and set out in the Association’s Membership Policy; and

(d) has undertaken to successfully pass the qualification examination(s) proscribed by the Board and set out in the Association’s Membership Policy.

(e) provides proof of liability insurance

Ongoing Requirements

To maintain Intern Membership, members must:

  • Renew ARIDO membership annually
  • Comply with ARIDO’s Professional Development requirement for Intern members
  • Adhere to the ARIDO Code of Ethics and Practice Standards
  • Accumulate the required amount of supervised work experience
  • Successfully complete the Supervised Work Experience Requirement
  • Provide proof of liability insurance coverage

Benefits

  • Intern members may use the designation “Intern Member of the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario” or “Intern, ARIDO” after their name
  • Graduated Intern Dues Program
    New intern members who recently graduated will enjoy reduced membership dues that gradually increase over the first three years of ARIDO membership. These tiered dues are intended to support grads as they enter the profession and begin working towards their supervised work experience.
  • How does it apply to you?
    • TIER 1 Intern membership is ONLY $102.99 (including HST) beginning the first year after graduation.
    • TIER 2 Intern membership is $205.97 (including HST) beginning the second year after graduation.
    • TIER 3 Regular Intern dues of $366.75 (including HST) will apply beginning the third year after graduation

  • Networking Opportunities at both local and provincial events
  • Volunteer opportunities through task forces and committees, as well as participation in various events and seminars throughout the year
  • Protection of the right to practice through ARIDO’s continued advocacy on behalf of the profession
  • Opportunities to mentor student members and be mentored by Registered Members

Additional Information

  • ARIDO has introduced a new experience requirement which Interns must complete as part of their path to Registered membership. Interior Design Experience Requirement (IDER), is a move away from hours-based reporting to evidence-based and requires the completion of mandatory tasks within each interior design phase.   • ARIDO no longer qualifies candidates to write the NCIDQ examinations. Intern members who wish to write the NCIDQ examinations must meet CIDQ’s education and work experience requirements to be eligible for the NCIDQ examinations.
