BMO Academy

BMO Academy reimagines corporate learning by transforming 43,100 square feet of a repurposed department store in Toronto’s Eaton Centre into a modern, flexible, and inclusive learning hub and workplace. Drawing inspiration from the ripple effect of water, the design for this interior embodies continuous knowledge sharing and collaboration through fluid architectural forms and seamless spatial connections.

The design of BMO Academy effectively delivers on the client’s five key goals: flexibility, inclusivity, innovation, sustainability, and technology integration.

A central hallway showing a central lounge and social area around a big column that acts as the focal element. A small private room is seen on the right side, for quiet studying

Flexibility is showcased through adaptable learning and working spaces, including modular classrooms and a 500-seat Presentation Hall with acoustic operable partitions that can be subdivided into smaller venues to suit a range of events.
Inclusivity is embedded through neuro-inclusive design strategies, such as acoustic zoning and sensory-sensitive spaces, ensuring an equitable experience for all users.
Innovation is demonstrated in the hybrid-ready environment, featuring state-of-the-art AV systems, digital collaboration tools, and interactive learning technologies that enable seamless in-person and remote participation.

Sustainability is achieved through the reuse of the existing building structure, furniture reuse where applicable, energy-efficient lighting, and the selection of sustainable materials, which resulted in the project’s LEED Gold certification.
Technology integration was carefully planned to ensure seamless connectivity throughout, with intuitive digital tools and integrated audiovisual systems that enhance learning experiences and collaboration.

Collectively, these design solutions align with BMO’s vision for a future-ready learning hub and workplace that supports continuous employee development while contributing to the vibrancy of downtown Toronto.
