Navigating the 2024 Ontario Building Code Updates with Vanessa Tantalo, ARIDO

The new 2024 Ontario Building Code has recently been released by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing and will be applicable to projects starting in 2025. In this two part webinar Vanessa Tantalo, ARIDO, a Building Code and Accessibility Consultant, takes us through a summary of the updates applicable to Interior Designers in Division B Parts 3, 9 and 11.

October 18th, 2024 - Session 1 will address changes to Division B Part 3 Fire Protection, Occupant Safety and Accessibility and will address changes affecting Interior Designers related to large and complex buildings.

October 25th, 2024 - Session 2 will address changes to Division B Part 9 Housing and Small Buildings and Division B Part 11 Renovations of Existing Buildings related to Division B Parts 3 and 9 affecting Interior Designers.

Key dates related to implementation of the new code will also be discussed in each session.

Following the summary presentation there will be a period for Q&A. Please submit your questions in advance during the registration process in the ‘Notes/Dietary Restrictions’ section.

Vanessa Tantalo, ARIDO

Speaker: Vanessa Tantalo, ARIDO

With over 18 years of extensive experience as a Registered Interior Designer, Vanessa has cultivated a diverse skill set across various sectors, including Higher Education, Workplace, Government, Retail Banking, Seniors Living, and Residential. Throughout her career progression, Vanessa has strategically focused and honed her interior design expertise, specifically her technical skills including becoming BCIN certified, becoming a certified RHFAC professional and specializing in building code and accessibility consulting.

Prior to Tanolo Tech Integration Inc, Vanessa worked as an Interior Designer for some of the most successful interior design and architectural firms in the GTA including Gensler, Kasian, figure3, SGH Design Partners, etc. and was the Director of Special Projects at Vortex Fire. She has also worked part-time with the Humber College Bachelor of Interior Design program and is currently a volunteer member of the City of Brampton Accessibility Advisory Committee.

Founding her own firm in early 2024, Tanolo Tech Integration Inc., Vanessa provides a unique service offering to her clients leveraging her extensive background in Interior Design. Combining her lengthy project experience and advanced technical expertise, Vanessa has positioned herself as an indispensable member of the project teams she is involved in.

In addition to holding an advanced diploma in Interior Design from Sheridan Institute of Technology and Advanced Learning, Vanessa has successfully completed the RHFAC training through Athabasca University in 2023, obtained her BCIN Large Building certification in 2013 and obtained her RHFAC certification in 2024. She is an active volunteer with both ARIDO and IDC.
