Meet the four talented designers behind the first place studio suite design for the Daniel’s On Parliament Student Competition!

Over the last several weeks, Emily Ramsuchit, Rozlyn Mead, Marianna Precepa, and Dayanna Lopez Buitrago from Humber College, teamed up to design a hyper-functional studio suite located in the lively and growing area where Regent Park meets Cabbagetown in downtown Toronto.

Given the constraints and rules of the floorplan provided, the objective was to question conventional ideas about space and function, investigate innovative approaches to urban living, and create a beautiful canvas for each user to make their own.

The concept was a driving factor for many of the design decisions; Salt & Pepper is a timeless duo, symbolizing the perfect balance of contrast & harmony. This was implemented both visually and technically, through contrasting yet minimal materiality and highly functional hardware solutions that support daily activities.

Bouncing ideas off of each other and tackling every problem, these students embraced this opportunity to fully collaborate. They challenged each other to think critically and truly visualize the space by addressing all three dimensions.

As a result, their final design optimizes every inch of the space, integrates innovative technology, and incorporates materials & fixtures that honor sustainable accessibility principles.
