International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia – May 17
- Published on: May 17, 2023
Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a day to raise awareness about the ongoing discrimination and violence that LGBTQ+ individuals face around the world. This year's theme is "Together: Resisting, Supporting, Healing!", which highlights the importance of solidarity and community in the fight for equality.
As an interior design community, we recognize the critical role that we play in creating safe, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for everyone. Our designs have the power to reflect and reinforce societal values and beliefs, and we must use this power to promote equality, diversity, and respect for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
We believe that everyone deserves to live and work in spaces that reflect their unique identities and provide a sense of belonging. To achieve this, we must design spaces that are free from homophobia, transphobia, and biphobia. This means creating spaces that are accessible, gender-neutral, and that respect individual privacy and dignity.
We also recognize the importance of education and awareness in promoting acceptance and understanding of LGBTQ+ issues. We must challenge stereotypes and biases and provide training and resources to help our clients and colleagues create inclusive spaces. By doing so, we can help break down barriers and foster a culture of respect and empathy.
Today, we stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our commitment to creating safe and inclusive spaces for all. We urge our fellow designers, clients, and colleagues to join us in this mission and work together to build a world where everyone can live their lives without fear of discrimination or prejudice.
Let's celebrate diversity, embrace differences, and create a world that is truly inclusive and welcoming to all. #ARIDOAwareness #IDAHOTB2023 #LGBTQ+ #inclusivedesign
